Based on the Central Coast’s Woy Woy Peninsula, GUST is a community group made up of people who simply love trees. We plant them, promote their many benefits, and advocate for better protection and appreciation of trees in our urban spaces.

What are you offering at the festival?

We will be providing education on the benefits of trees in urban environments.

does it cost any money?

No — our stall is completely free! We’re a volunteer group that simply loves trees and wants to share how everyone can help protect and grow them.

How do you align with the festival goals?

GUST seeks to improve environmental sustainability by increasing tree cover throughout the Central Coast Peninsula.

As well as looking beautiful, shade trees in urban areas significantly reduce the “urban heat effect”, where exposed tarmac and concrete absorbs then slowly releases heat to create hotter street-level temperatures.

Increasing tree cover also:

  • Helps combat global warming by storing CO2.

  • Saves money by providing shade thus reducing the need for air-conditioning in summer.

  • Reduces stress, improve mental health and promote a sense of well-being.

  • Provides privacy, reduces dust and noise, increases street appeal and property values.

  • Provides habitat for birds and wildlife.
