Banish

At Banish, we believe education is the key to driving real environmental impact. We empower Australians with the knowledge, tools, and resources to make more sustainable choices— at home, at work, or in their communities.

Through our Banish Recycling and Diversion (BRAD) Program, we tackle hard-to-recycle items, ensuring they're properly processed instead of ending up in landfill.

Recycled Ornament and Pen Making; Beeswax Wrap Making

Returning for our third year, we'll run two activations. The first turns bottle top lids into pens and Christmas ornaments, showing people what happens to an item their kerbside bin won't take and proving that "hard to recycle" doesn't mean "worthless". The second is beeswax wrap making, giving attendees a reusable alternative to cling film that they've made themselves and are far more likely to actually use.

Both tie directly into BRAD, the Banish Recycling and Diversion Program, one of Australia's largest hard-to-recycle collection programs. In 2024 BRAD diverted over one million pieces of plastic waste from landfill. The festival is a chance to bring that program to people who've never heard of it, and to answer the question we hear most often: I want to do better, but where do I start?
