National Parks Association of NSW

@npansw #30x30NSW #ProtectYourPatch

The National Parks Association of NSW is a member-based conservation organisation with a mission to protect nature through community action. We advocate for nature through our ongoing campaign for a secure network of protected areas, regional-scale conservation measures and sustainable land management. We also connect people with nature through our community program of bushwalking, field surveys, bush regeneration and nature study. Our nature-based activities, publications, events and webinars seek to foster a deeper appreciation and care for nature. Our special focus emphasises the primacy of ‘protected areas’ (such as national parks) for securing the long-term conservation of nature and associated cultural values—so that our core natural areas remain safeguarded for generations to come.

What are you Offering at the Festival?

We are running a campaign calling for 30% of NSW land and sea to be protected in National Parks and Marine Sanctuary Zones by 2030, consistent with Australia's commitment to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Come along to our stall to find out more about the campaign and how you can advocate for a place you love to be protected!

We'll be selling artworks featuring our native marine creatures as a way to raise funds for the campaign. It would be amazing to share our work with the community at Sustainable Future Festival and give them a chance to add their voice to our letter before we deliver it to Parliament.

Does it cost any money?

Yes - accepts cash only.

How do you align with the festival's goals?

Our campaign is all about inspiring the community to protect their beautiful local marine and terrestrial environment, which aligns with Sustainable Future Festival's goal to catalyse community action for a thriving coast. Our open letter creates a way to take these local voices to decision makers on the State level, so we can see changes in the way our land and sea are managed. We also ensure we maintain a zero-waste policy when campaigning - we use an electronic open letter form so community can sign and share waste-free. We also only sell / hand out waste-free promotional materials, including art prints and paper-based long-lasting stickers by local artists (and no packaging).
